What would guppys do?

What would the guppys do if i left the pregnant female and two other guppys in a small fish tank and she gave birth. Would all of the guppys feast on the fry or would they leave the fry alone?

Its 50/50 and it depends a lot on what sort of hiding places there are for the fry and if you have floating cover for them to hide in.

The fish (and their mother !!) will all attempt to snack on the fry. If they're good at hiding and your tank is full of hiding places some might survive. Survival of the fittest in action.

Floating plants, lots of caves and plants along the bottom and a layer of flat, glass marbles over the substrate can provide them with hiding places until they get bigger and is how our fancy guppy tank is setup.

You are prolly talking about a 25% or less survival rate of the fry if they are born into a populated tank outside of a trap. You can buy "fry grass" from any LFS for cheap and it will either float or you can secure it to the bottom with rocks and it will up the babies chances.

I think that i will just leave the mother by herself to give birth and put the other guppies in the main tank.

i think that is the best thing to do for the fry without a breeder box

this is what i did in the end. i took the 4g breeding tank, got a small filter, some gravel, fake but natural looking natural fern, and a thermometer. set up the tank. used water from my main tank. left it for a bit with the filter on. put in it my 4 pregnant guppies and hopefully they will give birth. the fern provides lots of cover and the fry should be safe, hopefully.
