Talk about some babies...

I think all of my female guppies had babies at once today. I put 2 of them in a breeder trap and a dozen or so fry came out. I thought they were done and let the females back out into the tank.

Boy was I wrong, lol. I spent the better part of the night fishing fry out of the 30 gallon with a net and moving them to the trap I have in my 10 gallon just for fry. Suffice to say my cory cat fry are no longer lonley, they have about 30 playmates.

Its gonna be fun but I totally underestimated how many fry a guppy can have. I read about it but until I saw it for myself I really had no idea. Its gonna be fun watching all those little critters grow though and a few of them will make a great present for my nieces and nephew along with the 2 cory cats that I am raising up.

I suspect there will be more in the morning when I wake up. I will catch what I can and the ones that elude my net should have enough plant cover to have a fighting chance in the wilds of my 30 gallon.

Some pictures of the new babies. Its hard to tell from the picture but I think I will get a few interesting colors from the batch.

Congrats to you. Thats a lot of fry. So u going to be in Fry Haven for some time LOL. I am waiting for mine to fry, its taking some time. Dont know if they are preg or not. The gravid spot thingy and the big belly is noticable but for how long must i wait.

Key signs are that the females will start to look fatter than normal, the gravid spot will become prolly double in size, they will lose interest in food, start to just hang around corners of the tank or hide by plants, and will start to square off by the anal fin. Its then that you trap them and keep them in there for a day or so.
