So I guess they were pregnant... :)

Because the bottom of my tank is now scowred with baby fry!

I was just starting to think my guppies might be about 3 days ago, and I posted a thread here about it. But I awoke this morning to feed my fish, and I opened the hatch and found a small black fish swimming amongst the others.

I immediately began looking for more, and found the whole bottom was full of them.

Iv'e managed to get about 5 or so into a bucket, but what I really need to know is this:

Are the other fry going to be alright if I leave them in the tank?

I'm only about a month in to the aquarium scene, and don't want to accidentally murder my fishies.

Thanks a ton!

Congrats!

With other fish in your tank, some fry will get eaten, especially if there are no hiding places for them. Some plants in the tank, and keeping the tank well-fed should help keep the others from munching on the fry also.

If you can remove the fry to a separate tank, that would be best. It is easier to feed the fry this way, and they grow faster because they don't have to compete with the adults for food.

One of my guppies just had fry in my tank. But I only had guppies in there, and some floating plastic plants for cover. In my case, I didn't lose any fry. The adults didn't even care the fry were there.

Thanks!

Congrats to you as well!

Yeah I have some Cabomba in there. It's really weird. It was planted last night, but this morning it looked as if something cut the stem, and they were already floating around on the top.

I have a Platy, 6 Guppies, and a Gourami named Fred, and they haven't even seemed to notice the little buggers.

Thanks for your help!

congratulations

for the fry, you should be feeding them several times a day as well. you can give them very finely crushed flake food, i think microworms work as well but they may need to be a little older

What about that powdered phyto plankton or that blue-green algae? I heard that is a great food for both fry and adult fish alike, and from what I have seen on the net a good supply of it is cheap.

Haha. That made me laugh.

Actually surprisingly, Fred has been keeping to... itself (Idk the sex)

He/She/It will swin near them, but if they get to close Fred swims away.

Fred is a very calm fish, and It only really swims for food or to get out of someones way.

But I see your point; Fred is bigger than them and could easily eat them, but I haven't really lost any from what I can see.

They are awesome now. they've nearly doubled in size over these past 5 or 6 days.
