Well I now have 10 little baby guppy fry. They're from two separate mothers... I don't know which mother 4 of them came from, but the other 6 I do. Both fathers are unknown because they were pregnant when I got them a few days ago.
I've raised fry before and they're being fed finely ground up fish flakes every couple hours - about 3-4 times a day. I use a clean measuring cup to pour in tank water to keep it flowing for sure and clear out the food and such. It's in a plastic breeder with slots, but I think it flows better when I 'assist'.
They were born into the actual tank and then carefully scooped out to try and avoid stressing my female with a breeder... and I wasn't really expecting the babies... I just can't help myself when I see them in the tank, I have to save them.
They all look like good strong swimmers, no one looks deformed, but I did notice one of them is missing a chunk of its little tail. I'm not sure if someone managed a nip on him before I scooped him out or what... the mother was trying to eat them and the
betta was stalking, so it's possible. Since it's so young, will this probably end up killing it, or is there a good chance it will grow back just fine? If it's causing the poor thing misery and it's not going to recover well, I'll 'sacrifice' it to the 44 gallon... I don't want to do that, though.
Any advice about baby guppies, feel free to share... even though I've done it before, new opinions are always welcome!
