Guppy on bottom of tank....

My male guppy has been acting odd.... he spends the better portion of the day on the bottom of the tank with the cory's, his little mouth seems to be gulping, but he never really rises to the top to take air. I do know that at night he rests with his 2 girls at the top and seems fine.

This is the tank ---

10 Gallon with 3 guppies (1 male, 2 female) and 2 small albino cory's (going to 30 gallon soon) tank set up 2 weeks.

Readings -- all within line via the local store testing.

Guppy Symptoms --- On the bottom of tank, gasping without rising to top, happy at night, still eating, active when bumped by me or the other fish. His body/fins seem fine without signs of disease or anything else.

B/c the tank is new, I do regular water changes 3 times a week.

Any Ideas on why he is acting so odd? or am I just paranoid over the little guy?

Thank you for all your help!!!!!!

Oh dear. I asked kind of the same question. the advice was to do regular daily water changes. But I am not expert when it comes to guppies. I'm sure the other forum members will come to your rescue real soon

I did try searching the forum and looking into your post but didn't know if a "refresher" of sorts might get some new info.

Thank you for your quick reply! I just want little "Butter" to be ok, he's the only male in the tank, I think the poor little girls would be lonely with out him!

Welcome to Fish Lore

Isis is right.
Did the store tell you what the readings are for ammonia nitrites and nitrates?

Being your tank is so new, it would be a good idea to start daily water changes to keep the toxic ammonia levels down until the tank fully cycles.
If you use prime as your water conditioner, it'll detoxify the ammonia for 24hrs between changes.

Ok, would you say about 40-50% is a good water change amount?
And I take it the bottom of the tank thingy is due to ammonia levels?

I even have this next week off, i will be watching over him every day1

welcome to fishlore!!!!

great advice your getting...

It sounds like ammonia poisioning...and the prime will help him tremendously to neutralize the ammonia for 24 hours until the next water change....40-50 is great until the tank cycles...the prime will also save the others from being affected ..goodlcuk~

Ok an update on little "Butter's" Condition..... well I did a 50% water change this morning with out much improvement on his condition. Then when I go home I decided that big mama (who is in the tank with him) was ready to move to the bigger tank .....
(See my post on "Think your guppy fry are dead? Think again!!)
Well out come all the hiding baby fry that i assumed were long gone and up comes Butter to see his girl daisy!! Seems he was just shy around Big Mama or longing for daily water changes. Either way, little butter is 100% better since the water change and the removal of Big Mama from the tank!

Thank you for all of your help!!!

That's great news!
Like Shawnie advised keep up with the water changes. You might want to consider getting your own test kit. The API Master Kit is used bt a lot of members here.
