Injured Guppy!!!!
Hi, I have problem. My favorite guppy, Frezle, is hurt! I was away last night and when I came home this morning I found him stuck to the filter intake!
I thought he was dead, but I saw his gills moving so I turned off the filter and he swam away.
He now has a white, dead looking patch starting at his tail and his beautiful tail is shredded! I think its from the filter and he has trouble moving. At first he sank to the bottom a little, but he's a fighter and kept trying and now he's swimming on top.
I have him with another male guppy and a cory cat (my female died and I've yet to get more), and I'm worried that the other male will bother him. He seems a bit better now but I have to go to the store to get a sponge for the filter.
Can I put him in some panty-hoses in the tank so he can get some R and R, and if so , how do I clean them to make them safe??
Please help , I don't want to lose him!!!!!!!

Do you have a q tank where you can keep an eye on him?
I would recommend adding some stress coat (or fish protector), drops of garlic juice in his water/food and Vitachem to his water. That, and keeping it fresh and ultra clean should help him regenerate his fins and heal. Never tried the panty hose thing... I think a breeder's net would be better?... they are fairly inexpensive and square shaped so that he still has a chance to move but also rest.
if you cant get your hands around the v-chem and fish protector, (stress coat is much easier to find at the lfs) start out with the garlic juice and the breeders net.
good luck and let me know how it goes!

Thanks alot! I don't have a quarintine tank, but he seemed to be doing better, so I went to the store and got the stress coat. They didn't have a breeders net, but they suggested that I float a bowl in the water.
I didn't think that was such a good idea but I added the stress coat and did a water change, and now he's swimming around, still looking very beat up, but better than before.
By the way, what's garlic juice?

yes, dont listen. the water bowl can get full of ammonia... that's why you want a net, so that the water can come in and out.
Garlic juice is the thing you get out of a jar of minced garlic (the one you get at the grocery store) you add a few drops of that, or even feed him a bit of garlic and it should boost his inmmune system helping him regenerate.
also look up on the vitachem. It is liquid vitamins that will really, really improve his chances of recovering completely. You can get that one online at drfostersmith.com
stress coat + garlic juice drops + vitachem (If possible), and your guppy will recover in no time!

Thanks again! I have some garlic juice and I'll add it to his water.
So its ok to feed him while he's sick then?
The woman at the pet store suggested rocks to add to the tank to stop fish form getting sucked into the filter. I've covered the intakes with sponge. Will the rocks do anything, or should i wait until he's better before I stress him out more?
