Guppy tails

Hello, I have 4 fancy tail guppies and I've had them for about two months. I was wondering how long it takes for the tails to fully develop and grow longer... Just curious thanks

You have had them for 2 months ...but how old are they?? I have a little male that was born in my tank about 3 1/2 months ago and he is fully grown..sexually mature and his tail started developing around 2 moths of age and just grew bigger and more colorful till he was about 3 months.

The guppies I have were born in the middle of March. Their tails are just starting to get a lot bigger. The coloration showed up in a month or so. Even after 4 months or so they aren't full grown. Their colors are vibrant and their tails are really starting to grow. I should try to get a picture of one of them. It is very interesting looking.

well... When i got them at the fish store one of them was obviously a baby, since he was very, very little. the others seemed "grown" but didnt have an incredibly long tail...

so far only one of my guppies has developed a long tail, the others seem not to grow... maybe lack of vitamins?

Could it be that you got feeder guppies by mistake?? Half of the petstore employees havn't a clue.

most likely... although I checked and the tag said "fancytail male guppies"...

so my guess is that only one of them is really a fancy tail....

DO the colors matter? are feeder guppies super colorful? because my guppies are really colorful.

I think some can be....I had feeders back quite a few years ago and the males had a lot of color but it was in blotches all over the body and very bright colors. Not like the fancies I have that the whole body ...or a lot of the body is all the same color.

Hmmm ..not sure then..I have heard of cull fancies being used as feeders so if you got a hybrid fancy feeder...lol maybe you could have a color like that.

Here is one of my guppies that were born back in March. I have never seen a guppy with a tail like this. Could it be possible that his tail was nipped by one of the others and it just continued to grow like this or what? The other pic is one of the cooler looking guppies that I have.

I dont think so. Usually they grow back, unless they are constantly being nipped, what other fish do you have in there?

Just guppies in this tank. His is the only tail that looks like that. I don't see any kind of agression from any of the fish in there. I just think it is growing like that. Pretty cool though.

All the fish in there now were born from fish I had in that tank. The mothers died shortly after the fry showed up. The father died about a month ago. Not sure from what. There were no physical signs of illness.

Breeding would be fun if I had more money for tanks and such, and there was a market for them.

there might be a market for that type of tail, since it is so unique...
