12 cent guppy, not a good deal
I went guppy shopping with my daughter. This store had no feeder guppies. In the feeder tank along with rosy red minnows I saw a plump female guppy. I bought her for 12 cents thinking I had scored a great deal.
This cheapy guppy was a fin-nipping bully in the 10 gallon tank. She shredded the fins on 2 females and a male guppy! She dropped a few fry, which were readily eaten by the other fish. Heartbreak to my daughter. Lucky I think.
My daughter promptly removed the bully and dumped her in my 20 gallon tank. The gup started chasing my platys around.
I took a closer look at this guppy. She had black below her eye and was neutral colored all over. I suspect she was actually a mosquito-fish...also livebearers, usually neutral in color, often seen in ponds as insect control and very aggressive for their size.
I took her to my friend's house and dumped her in with the big cichlids. She is no more. She was a feeder after all.
