Girl Fight!!

Hi all! I am having a little trouble with my guppies. I have 4 female fancy guppies (oh so pretty!!) in a 10 gallon tank. They have been peachy-keen for about 3 weeks. However, within the past two or three days (teachers love Spring Break too!!) I've noticed Big Mama (she's the biggest female guppy I've ever seen) has been literally beating on the smaller 3 girls They scatter when she comes around. If she's sitting "still" near the top of the tank, they're like whee! and cavort around. If she's prowling , they hide in the plants near the bottom or in the cave I haven't noticed anyone with nipped fins yet but I don't know what to do!! I like my girls, they're so pretty but Big Mama is making life miserable for the other girls. Please help!!

Looking at your profile, did you cycle your tank? it looks like you are in mid-cycle. Daily water changes and tests are a must. your ammonia and nitrites are too high. they should be 0!

Can you get Prime to treat your tap water with? I'd use that and start changing out at least 25% of the water daily to get those levels down, especially the nitrites.

Try putting the big fish in a breeding net for a week or two. It might help. It looks like the one in second picture. In US, it is available in Petsmart, Walmart,...

Actually, I haven't posted the water info for this tank. The info that I have posted is the 5 gallon tank I have. Since then I've gotten a larger tank and used Bio-Spira to cycle it, which worked perfectly; it is now fine.

The guppies are in a completely different tank that I seeded with gravel from the Bio-Spira established one. Thanks for all the advice though. One of the girls died and everything seems to have balanced out with the remaining 3 since then. When I get back to my detailed testing kit, I will post my updated water parameters for both tanks.
