| Guppies: They're far too nice for their own good Hello
In our 20-gallon guppy tank, we now have:
1 male guppy
1 small albino bristlenose
1 small ghost shrimp
We just put them in the main tank from the quarantine. After we got home from a trip in the mall, I noticed my little guppy's tail has been partially ripped. The rip is very obvious. I pity the little guy. Then my eyes suddenly fell onto Larry the Ghost Shrimp. He's just standing there. I'm thinking, "Did he do it?" No, ghost shrimps are gentle and peaceful creatures. Or, is it that the guppy is too peaceful that the shrimp started picking on him?
I did a little research on it. I went to a fish website forum on guppies. One member said that he had a guppy in his community tank of flame dwarf gouramis, 10 ghost shrimps(one is said to be giant-sized), and some Angelfish.
He said that the guppy was too peaceful that the gouramis and the shrimps were picking on him a lot. His biggest ghost shrimp was too slow to catch anything but when the guppy swims near the gravel to rest, the biggest shrimp would have a chance.
Now, I like guppies very much, but I also like ghost shrimp because they are very interesting. I bought my ghost shrimp so it can scavenge on the guppies' uneaten food. Now, will I remove the shrimp? Or is there another reason of the guppy's tail ripping?
Thanks in advance! |
