Hi Zja2.

I don't think it's normal. I think it's quite worrying. If it was two females, I'd say perhaps they're about to give birth, but it's really worrying for a male.

I would also say that you'd need to get at least 2 females per 1 male, or the females will be harassed to death. But this is a longer term problem. First off, let's get your fish better.

Here's some questions that should put us on the way:
  • How big is your tank?
  • What are your water parameters (nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, pH and temperature)
  • What other fish are in the tank?
  • Do they have other symptoms like discoloration, or darkening, or litttle spots, or swelling, or split/ragged/frayed fins?

Hey Armadillo. The fish look normal,no tore fins no color loss nothing.Water is okay too,the temp is about 74 F.I just got them a few days ago so they might have been a little scared. They have stopped going to the bottom now so what ever was bothering them must have past.Oh, and the tank is a 1 gallon, and no other fish are in there with them(of course if its a 1g).

I would jack the temperature to 78 degrees farenheit. We had some be extremely sluggish for almost a month after buying them, they had been tranquilized before we bought them. Tranquilizers if improperly done are the bane of fish' existance.

Oh and a 1g is too small for guppies. Guppies should be kept in trios also.

Thanks for the info, Zja. I would agree with the Chief about guppy trios. You'll really have to watch this space for male harrassing female I think.

I also think that 1G is really on the small side. Am afraid you might really soon run into health problems if they stay in that container (fish are really sensitive to stress, which easily leads to diseases for them).

Great that they're feeling better, though. But can I please ask you to consider upgrading to a larger tank, and adding a female?

For the 1G, you could always have a shrimp tank (with a couple of amano shrimps).

agreed, guppies like to sleep on stuff. Mine lay in the gravel or in plants.
