Hi I have 3 gouramis and they used to be quite bold and came up to the top of the tank to feed etc.

Now they are really shy and they tend to stay at the back of the tank where they have some protection.

In fact when I walk into the room, they go zipping around the tank looking for cover ... why has this happened ?

Maybe their spooked of something? Anyway, I really wouldn't put a Chinese Algae Eater with gouramis. Gouramis bodies are quite flat and the CAE loves to suck on the sides of fish with flat sides like angelfish, discus, etc.

Sounds like they are scared of something...They had a fright recently? bad experience?
Or perhaps like stradius says the CAE is sucking on them and thats the reason they are scared?

Good point re the CAE but he is only small and does not get up to much mischief yet.

Maybe I will take the CAE out to see if that is the problem.

What other reasons do you think ?
