| | Fish Keeper | Cute Honey Gourami Behaviour :) A couple of days ago I decided I had to take my neon blue dwarf gourami back to my LFS because he was very aggressive and territorial, particularly to my poor pregnant platy. I ended up taking home a honey gourami, who so far is behaving like an absolute sweetheart
The honey is so relaxed and is doing great with the other fish at the moment. I have yet to see even a hint of aggression. In fact, he is curious about the other fish and seems to like swimming with them. I saw him gently touching the platy with his feelers, it was so cute After this, they decided to swim together for a while. I also saw the honey touching the breeder's net, with all the babies crowded together right in front of the honey watching
Another things, as I was watching the fish with my boyfriend and as a joke he wiggled his finger up and down in front the honey (we do this in front of my cockatiel, who bursts into chirps and whistles). Anyway, the honey stopped swimming, looked at us, lifted up it's feeler and wiggled it up at the finger. We cracked up laughing at it's cuteness. Thinking it was a fluke, he did it again a minute later, and of course the honey stopped swimming and wiggled it's feeler at us again.
I just thought I'd share how adorable my honey gourami seems to be Hopefully his personality won't change |

| | Fish Addict | I have two (in separate tanks) and are completely peaceful. The one in the community tank has been reaching out to other fish with his feelers. It's cute! The other one in the guppy tank likes to spit water at me! Maybe he thinks I'm a big mosquito he can shoot down for a meal.... |

| | Fish Keeper | I am still very very happy with my honey gourami. It is just such a sweetheard
It is so peaceful, so laidback with the other fish. I just got a tank-length air curtain thing, and the honey LOVES the bubbles, it surfs them pretty much all day hehehe
Lucy: Thanks, I'm glad I'm having a better experience too
jerilovesfrogs: This is the first honey I've owned, but I highly recommend them, just based on my experience I have heard of people owning multiple ones with no issues, but one by itself should be pretty happy. I have heard the females are grey and difficult to get in LFS. I just heard it somewhere, so I don't know how accurate that is.
Ray: Hahaha I like the one that spits water! Sounds so cute and funny |

| | Fish Master | i'm glad most people are loving their honeys! i think i'm going to get one, a group of rainbows, and a group of corys. should be really pretty!
Navarunroy: what size tank do you have, and what kinds of fish? sorry he's being a pain for you.....i think they like a lot of plants in the tank....how many do you have? if not enough, maybe he's feeling really uneasy. |

| | Fish Keeper | Navarunroy: I guess there are exceptions in every species. I had a blue neon dwarf gourami that was recommended for my tank, but it terrorised my poor sweet platy I have also heard of very similar looking dwarf gourami's being sold as honey gouramis too, is it possible it's another species and the LFS had an oops? Just a thought, that's all |

| | Fish Helper | navarunroy: perhaps you have a flame dwarf gourami? They can be aggressive, and are often sold as honeys. They are just a color morph of your typical dwarf gourami, not a different species, and therefore it would make sense for the little guy to have a bit of a 'tude. |

| | Fish Keeper | Rhan-Glad you are enjoying your little honey, they are really great fish. I also have one in my tank, and he just loves Finly, my platy. He'll follow him around but not in an aggressive way at all, just touching him with his feelers, checking to see if he is okay...it seems that Finly is the only one who gets the honey massage, so I have concluded that Sherlock (my honey) is very fond of Finly. It doesn't phase Finly at all!
Enjoy your little honey, I hope he keeps his sweet temperament (ha ha play on words) and gives you a lot of enjoyment. |

| | Fish Keeper | Hahaha mine does that with the platies And with my arm when I'm gravel-vaccing, it follows me around the tank with its feelers out in front of it
Also, the other day I bought a balloon molly, and the honey went up to it and touched it with its feelers. For the few minutes, the honey would idle by the balloon molly and touch it
I love my honey gourami! |
