I just wanted to know how you tell the diff between a male and female gourami. I have two powder blue and two red, very beautiful fish

Late reply, not sure if this encompasses the whole species, but in Opaline Gouramis the mail has a longer and more pointed dorsal fin than the females, whose dorsal fins tend to be shorter and rounded. Hope this helps.

i thought i had 2 female dwarf gouramis, but was told that they were male.

both have rounded dorsal fins, yet all my books and websites say males have pointed dorsals.

i was told they were male due to them being a very vibrant colour (females being almost colourless)

however, they are now trying to breed, so i've no idea what's going on.

so i'm not sure if you can believe the colours or the fins!!

my gourami have just bread although i wasnt there when spawning but theyre the only male and female pair in my tank so im sure its them the two breeding pair are boht golden gourami and the male with the more pointed dorsal is the same colour as the female so i dont know if colour is completely accurate however the different dorsal fins seems to work for me hope this helped
