Here's my understanding:
The true honey gourami is
Colisa chuna (used to be called
Trichogaster chuna) and is different than the dwarf gourami (
Colisa lalia).
Honey gouramis max out at 5cm for the females and slightly smaller for the males. The
Colisa chuna have a way different attitude than
Colisa lalia -- they don't fight other
Colisa chuna males the way
DG are known to battle.
Size is one way to help determine if it's a honey or a color morph of a DG. Temperment around other gouramis is another clear indication.
I had 2 male honey gouramis together in my 10g and they always stayed together. I recently moved one male when I introduced two females, just to be safe, but honey gouramis are supposed to be much less aggressive than DG when spawning. But...not worth a risk, imo.
I love my little gouramis!
