would this cause fights???

Ok I had a pair of red honey gouramis but the male died. I want to get a pair of dwarf gouramis but would they pick on my female honey gourami and could they interbreed?

I know if you mix males they will bully each other but you never hear anything about mixing females.

well i only had experience with 2 types of gouramis.....the pink kissing ones...which didnt go well at all.....and they both ended up dying.....which was because of my inexperience at the time and then i got 2 dwarf flame gouramis....1 had the iridovous virus and died.....but my other one is thriving and had him awhile.... he is wonderful and the life of the tank.....i just got him girlfriends 2 dwarf flame females which took me forever to find.......they are in quaritine right now... but i like the dwarfs gourami.. but do not put more than 1 male in the tank unless you have a big tank....they are terrortial and my dwarf even gets into squabbles when the rainbow shark comes up to his terriortiy on the top of the tank..... 1 male at at least 2 to 3 females....

i was told that females can be mixed without a problem...its the males you need to worry about... each fish is different so try it out and see.....

I've kept dwarf gouramis, and I find them to be a bit chiller than their larger relatives. I've kept pairs of various sex combinations, all of which did fine in tanks w/ plenty of space and cover. They will nip long, flowing fins, so they're not suited for community tanks w/ delicate, long-finned fish. How did your male die? If he was beaten to death by the other gourami, I might guess that that individual would be better off solo. If he wasn't picked on, are you sure there's nothing contagious floating around the water? Maybe it would be best to wait another week or so to make sure the second gourami is still healthy.

As I said, I can only speak from experience, but I've always kept pairs and they've done fine, as long as they have separate, planted areas to retreat to when they get cranky with each other.
