I love sparkling gourami! B/c they are tiny and have an amazing sparkling color as well as their dopey personality.

Please explain why as well (forgot to mention), it might even persuade another hobbyist to purchase that certain gourami.

Blue, gold, and opaline gourami are all the same species- trichogaster trichopterus.

I'm a big fan of pearl gourami and sparkling gourami.

All Gourami, in my opinion are beautiful fish with so many color variations.I have had many different types but the one kind of Gourami that I just fell in love with were the Honey Gourami, or sunset Honey Gourami. It just seemed that their personality was so much more calmer then some of the other types and I just think they are so darn cute..

Care should be taken whenever you read common names. "Sunset Honey Gourami" is usually a color variant of the colisa lalia. A real "Honey gourami" is colisa chuna. They are very different fish.

Thanks... well, when I look at the 'honey' Gourami... I just think they are the cutest little things... for myself.. it doesnt really matter whether they are in the family of colisa lalia or colisa chuna...

They are definately cute. So are a lot of fish. They are DIFFERENT fish though. They act differently and should be stocked differently. That's like saying all tetra are equal because they are in the Characin family.

Honey gourami because of their peaceful and timid personalities. They add a nice splash of colour. They are bigger than guppies and platys but won't pick on them.

I agree. Common names tell us nothing.

It wasn't posted for the sake of being argumentative. It was posted for the sake of pointing out how different these fish are because a lot of people reading this post probably don't know. It isn't like the LFSs go out of their way to educate people about the fish they are purchasing, and even if they did it's probably inaccurate info.

We try to learn scientific names of fish when possible because common names tell us nothing. They vary even from LFS to LFS in many cases.

I've only kept dwarf gourami and honey gourami, but I think they're both adorable (colisa lalia and colisa chuna respectively, since we're getting all technical - pics here of the latter )

Alright, folks... Let's drop the scientific name discussion. This wasn't a thread about "what species of gourami is most docile/aggressive/large/small/colorful/etc..." It was "what's your favorite?"
A "what's your favorite?" poll is something for fun... something to pass the time and learn everyone else's personal preferences. Nitpicky posts tearing apart another's choice of naming drag this kind of thread down. In a "what should I stock, given my current stock?" thread, that kind of info is more relevant.

For me, my favorite would have to be the blue gourami (aka three spot gourami), but that's probably because that's the only kind of gourami I've ever had.

Im not sure if I'm suppose to laugh or not but I'm sorry if I offend anyone.

My four sparkling gouramis are pretty funny, two would swim shortly together then the bigger one comes out of no where and chase them then stops and the other two would come back again lol. Like kids pestering a granny in her front porch yelling "get off my lawn!" While the ghost shrimps would be chilling and watching on the wisteria plants. The 2nd biggest gourami is just plain dopey and swims around checking out everything. He reminds me of my brother-in-law's cat named cougar.

Well apparently for some it's a bannable offense.

I should have also mentioned licorice gourami. If I had the time to dedicate to a really specialized setup for them, I think it would be a really interesting challenge.

Well I am biased because I've only ever had one kind.. my powder blue dwarf gourami. But he is so interesting, I love him.
