blue and gold not getting along...

just got a blue and gold gourami yesterday. the blue is pretty mellow and just takes it easy, but any time he crosses the path of the gold...the gold starts chasing him.

i realize it's not a good thing and the blue could get stressed and get sick, but i also just wonder if they need to "come to an understanding" or "establish a pecking order."

i've kept blues and golds together before, but they usually got along pretty good.

are there any strategies i can use to make them feel like they have their own territories laid out? i've got two huge pieces of driftwood and some plants growing from the bottom. and some floating "frogbit" type stuff. the fish store guy said he thought it came off another plant (which i don't believe is correct) and said he would give it to me for free.

but beyond takin one out and puttin it in another tank, i don't really have any ideas how to help them get along besides waiting it out. they just look so nice together.

are they in the 41 gal tank? if so, take out the bully...move things around so they are different ....leave him out for a good 30 mins or so, then put him back in ...if he continues after a few days, it probably isnt going to work and one will have to be returned or you are right...one will end up stressed with issues ...if they are in the smaller tanks, id upgrade them asap and put the bully in last

they are in the 41. i always forget to mention that, and my info on those tanks probably isn't right anyway, always forget to update it.

i think if he is still being aggro tonight i'll put him in the 29 gallon.

or i could take him back and try and get a mellow one. but when i was watchin him he was the most chill one in the tank, from what i could tell. now i'm going to impose human thought and reasoning onto the fish....and maybe he was low man on the totem pole, and now that he is in a new tank, he wants to be top dog. kinda like when 8th graders go to be freshmen. only opposite.

as shawnie said i would move things around and then introduce the fish again. It creates sort of a bond. This is off topic, but i did that with guinea pigs once. I had afemale that was alone for about a motnh, introduced the new girl, they had a fight. Took them both out, moved it all around. I put the girls in and since they were disoriented the bonded and were happy
