Mixing Gouramis?

I am planning on getting one to three pearl gourami's in a week and was wondering out of curiosity- can you put more than one kind of gourami in a tank? Like Pearls and Honey Gouramis or Pearl's and Dwarf Gouramis?

Just curious.

Also, I have a peaceful commuinty tank, with platies being my smallest fish.

Should I get 1 pearl gourami as a centerpiece fish or should I get 2 or three?? If so what's the best mix/ratio for M to F, should I get an even ratio (1M, 1F), or all of one sex?

Thanks!

Good luck... It entirely depends on the individual personalities of DGs and the size of the tank.

E.g. My bf made an impulse buy the other day, and he ended up introducing a pearl to his 30 gallon which already had a dwarf. Result, the Dwarf almost got killed and he would have if I had not taken him out of there.

I had nowhere to place the poor dwarf but my 55 which ALREADY had a gold gourami in there, but again, I had no choice but to try since my tank is much bigger and I still had the possibility of my gold being a bit more mellow. For the first three days I had to be constantly taking the gold out the tank to keep him from chasing the Dwarf. A couple of days later, they figured out their territories and now ignore each other, thing which did not happen before in the 29 with the pearl.

As you see, its a matter of luck; they are pretty much similar to male bettas in that sense...

personally i wouldn't risk it unless you have a back up plan, i'd just go with one pearl gourami in your tank as well (depending on the size), better safe than sorry

Ok, Thanks for the information.
I will just get one pearl.

...do you think I could have an issue with the pearl and my female betta

Ehh... yeah. They might very well decide to chase each other to death. Gouramis and Bettas are very closely related, and a female betta extremely vicious for her size. You will also be in risk if one of them decides they want to mate, (it may happen since they are so closely related) and then also end up dead in the process.

I wouldn't risk it.

Darn, ok.. I was hopeful since everyone says that pearls are very peaceful, but I love my female betta, and we already have a betta in our other tropical fish tank..the only tank left is the goldie tank and I'm not putting her in there.

Thanks..glad to find out this way, then by having them fight.

Any ideas on a 'bigger' (4-6inches) fish that would get along with my smallest of fish (platies) and my only 'aggressive fish' my betta??

I wanted a single 'centerpiece fish', but I've found out that angels aren't a good idea, and now gouramis.. Any suggestions??

You could try a couple of silver dollars but that might be pushing your luck

Dollars can grow to 12", so I won't really mess with them to be fair.
