Can I get another gourami?

Hi. I have a 20 gallon tank with 1 male honey gourami. I have never had them before and didn't know they were such neat fish. I want to get another one but I want to make sure they are peaceful toward each other. I read I cannot get another honey gourami and have peace. Can I get a dwarf gourami?

Thank you!
Clare

Male gouramis don't play nice together. Especially in a 20 gal. tank, one is probably best.

What if I get maybe 2 female honey gouramis in addition? What does everyone think about that? I have read past posts that it should be fine, and that honey gouramis are the most peaceful of all the gouramis. Any ideas or suggestions? I don't want anyone getting killed.

That would be 1 male honey gourami and 2 female honey gouramis in a 20 gallon tank. Right now my male looks lonely. Always swimming up and down on one side of the glass. Tank is fully cycled with plants. Just got him this past weekend though.

if you can find 2 fems, they would be ok with hiding spots.....the hard thing is most pet stores dont sell the fems as they arent as colorful and not huge money makers...goodluck tho

I saw in the store near me in NJ in the same tank they had lots of blue-ish greyish looking ones with the orange ones. So maybe they are the same. Not sure. I will find out. What does everyone think adequate hiding spots are? Right now I have a piece of wood (generally log shaped) in the middle and 3 sparse plants that I am waiting to fill in on the sides, and some java moss.

I did a lot of research on plants and I'm hoping it will pay off! I'm trying to send them to my email from my phone right now.

This is the first time I am adding pics. I hope it works well. Someday I will use my camera to take pics but it is full right now so I am using my phone. Any thoughts?
I'll do research on how to sex them. I'll need to make sure I have a male too.

that tank is coming along nicely! but it might not have enough hiding spots yet for the 3 ...are you going exclusively with live plants? I love the wood..it looks awesome!

Thanks! I am going with just live plants. We have a pretty good specialty fish store near us here but they don't have a couple of the plants I was planning on getting, like the lilly pads that grow on the surface. So I may have to go extra far away for that one and the others.

Heh. It looked like that was all the fish store had.. But I'm going to another one this weekend and we will see what they have. Maybe I can add some bushier ones from there. I really want the Limnobium laevigatum (Amazon Frogbit?) http://www.aquahobby.com/garden/e_Li...laevigatum.php here is a good description of it.

oh I think I had some of that or something like that at one time...and because I use bubble wands in my tank, they kept blowing down near the filter intake and just getting sucked in there...I gave up...that will look awesome tho!

Thanks for the info. I was considering bubble wands but I think my plants will provide enough oxygen
