Rainbow Gouramis?

I was at a newly discovered LFS and they had something called "Rainbow Gourami" in a tank. I have never seen anyhthing like them. They definately arent Paradise or any kind of dwarf. The best discription I can give is a silver body with multi-colored fins, and the larger size of gourami (of course not giant). Does anyone know anything about these fish (diet, temperment, etc) because they would be cool to own.

(sorry about no pics, I didnt think to bring a camera)

It's a dwarf gourami, just a color variation.

Nope thats not it. Its very different and much bigger than a dwarf. I am pretty familiar with your run of the mill gourami's and this is not normal. Its the same size as a blue or gold (roughly 4 inches) and the body is definitely a grey-silver. Only the fins have color and its more than blue and red (some greens that irides yellow). They are quite unique.

This place also has a bunch of other fish Ive never seen before, including freshwater gobies, rummies (no one else in town has them), and some rare plecos. I will keep digging but I am sure they were not Dwarfs, Powders, sunset/sunburst, opaline, gold, blue, pearl, or kissing gourmis. I will try and make another trip this week to find out more (and pick up plants, thier plants look great and are dirt cheap). I will bring a camera and take some pics to let you all see them too.

Most female Gouramis are rather plain looking, could it be dyed?
When you go back look and see what the scientific name is also. that and a picture would help a lot.

I think its a female version of the "indian gourami." This looks more like it. I will attach a pic of the dwarf with it as to compare.

Its definitely a Banded "Indian" Gourami, they do resemble cichlids a lot lol... oh and its a male, the females dont have the bright blues and yellows along the fins, they are much duller like other female gouramis

It would be the top one that I saw. They must have all been females too as they werent quite this vibrant (really low lighting in the tank too). I will probably be pick the guys brain when I goto the LFS next, he seemed to really have a good knowledge of fish.

You can find Dwarf Gouramis nearly at any pet store I have a bunch of dwarf gouramis.

If there is a big al's aquarium near you, there should be a deal on the dwarfs.

When I bought mine it was 3 for 9 dollars They live for about 4-5 years or even longer
