female Paradise and female Gourami fish

Hi, I am new at this...first post i have done. My question is; how do I get a FEMALE Paradise fish or FEMALE Gourami fish?

I have read posts that indicate you are breeding Gouramis, (a Paradise fish is of the Gourami family) but I have searched high and low and have not found a female Gourami fish. Well, take it back, I found a site but they wanted $40 just to deliver one fish! Must be a better way.

All of the pet stores locally and fish store, no female gourami fish.

Anybody have any ideas in this regard.

Thanks so much!

Hello Maggie and welcome to fishlore!
Most Gourami's sold in the store are males, as you have found out. I think it is because the females are not as bright and pretty as the males.
Do your paradise fish and Gourami get a long? They are both in the same family and the paradise fish can be aggressive at times.
You may have to end up finding a Gourami breeder in your area, if thats possible in order to ensure you get a female.
Good luck with that!
