fighting or mating?
I have two blue gouramis in a 55g community tank, and they both have plenty of hiding spots to go their separate ways. They appear to be male and female, however they are always chasing one another all around the tank. They sometimes do this bizarre dance, and then bite each others tails forming a circle, then swimming around. They also are constantly chasing one another and are starting to show signs of the continuous tail nipping. It is also starting to affect the other fish that accidentally get in the way of this. Is this a sign of aggression, or part of their mating ritual? Is it normal for a male and a female to not get along? f in fact they are a male and a female. The dorsal fin in one is pointy and the other is rounded, is that the correct fin? or is it the one underneath? My last question, is would it be cruel to keep one in my ten gallon? I know they grow to be 4-6 inches, so i didnt know if that would be too small for him, even if he was the only fish.
