| Moonlight Gouramis I saw these gouramis for the first time in LFS. They were magnificent! The ones I saw were pure satin white..WOW.
Does anyone have any experience with them or information on their basic needs ??

| Moonlight Gourami has a silvery body with little or no other markings and the fins will be lighter silver. MGs grow to about 6 inches in length. It is best to keep this species as a pair, or one male with several females. MGs prefer an aquarium with some cover (live plants or fake plants) where it may spend most of its time hovering in one place. They will eat most prepared foods but be sure to include a vegetable based food in its diet.
I too loved this fish when I saw it, but also liked the Opaline... in the end we went with the Opaline, just because we already had a few white fish. |

| We have two in my son's 29 gallon. They ARE beautiful creatures. And to my surprise they have quite a personality. They act just like my Oscar. As soon as I walk into the room they go up to the glass and just stare at me. Here are a couple of pics. |

Thanks for posting the pictures, I was so taken by them when I saw them in the LFS. They were awesome. I was disappointed to learn how large the get, and currently they just wouldn't work anywhere. However, in the future, should I get another large tank, I am thinking of trying them.
Your tank does look great. Anything else inthe tank with them??

Currently they are in a 29 gallon with 6 Flame Tetras, a Beta, and a Striped Peacock Eel. My son wants to add an Angelfish and some Harlequin Rasboras, probably this weekend. |

I just think Angels are prone to being tank dominators, and those Betta fins would be like "come get me" |

| Agree. The betta is likely to end up finless, plus your tank is not big enough to add an angelfish.
Watch the gouramis with the betta too. They're not usually good tankmates. |

I have had a beta and an angel fish living harmoniously together for about a year now with absolutley no problems.
My son wants to add an Angel and Rasboras, but he will probably only end up with the rasboras. We have been looking around for a couple of weeks and can't seem to find any quality Angels anywhere in town. |

| well i have 2 moonlights with 2 angels and 2 betta's and not a single fin is nipped im happy to announce, moonlights are stunning fish, mine are not so timid anymore think they must know they are safe in the tank and swim freely and never need to look for them at all |

| Hi!
Bettas shouldn't be kept with ANY fish apart from Otos and corys. Can you both get them tanks of at least 2.5 gals each to themselves? There WILL be conflict in there sooner or later - especially with 2 Bettas!
Bert - your tank has room for 6 Harlequin rasboras - that's it. After that - no more fish in there! |

Eventually the gourami's and the bettas will fight. They always seem to. Something about being closely related and both being labyrinth fish. I had gourami with my betta and boy did they fight, had to separate them. You have two bettas in that tank.. what are their gender? I have had one betta in a community tank and it did fine. Just depends on what is in with it. No fin nippers for sure, and no gourami's. A female betta does much better in a community tank for that reason. ~ kate |

| Hi!
Harlequins would have worked if you got them instead of Barbs, Nar. How are your Pearls doing today? |

| The pearls are great, they realized that they're the biggest fish in the tank so they swim proudly across it occasionally, they have good appetites as well. |

| BTW love gouramis, don't know about the moonlights, they get huge, and I just can't care for anything that big right now. But I hope it works out for you if you get some. |

Great to hear! Cherry barbs are really great for gouramis - they aren't that imposing and don't closely school like neons which really sap Gouramis confidence. I wish I had a tank like that! |
