Well, with 10 gallons I'd stick to one or two Dwarf type gouramis. Gouramis have a history of picking on each other. They're pretty peaceful to other fishes though. They don't do as well with more aggressive species like Tiger barbs. You'd be best to find just a few small fish. 5 or 6 small tetras or something like that. I've kept gouramis with a wide variety of fishes through out my fish keeping. Tetras, Cherry Barbs, Guppies, even a couple young Tin Foils and Iridescent Sharks. Like I said they only really pick on each other. I keep a Male and a Female and they get a long, but if they should happen to mate, the male will become very intollerant of and very aggressive towards the female once the eggs are laid.
