| For most gouramis, the only way you can sex them is by the dorsal fins -- the males usually have a pointy end towards the back, while the females have a more rounded dorsal fin. In a few species, the females are duller in coloring, too.
Unfortunately, there are some (like my honey dwarf gouramis) where it's only possible to sex them while they're in breeding condition -- the male gets a darker band on the bottom and his colors intensify. Otherwise, males and females are identical, so it's a shoot (I think I have 2 males, based on their squabbling). |
