Hi Guys,
my mom has a Gourami that is not looking good... it is kin of pale & sitts on the bottom of the tank & / or on the decor in the tank alot... has been doing this awhile & she has had it several months.. has not added any other fish in a long time & all other fish are fine.

All her water conditions are good.

Any Ideas? or is it not going to make it?

What size tank, what other tank-mates and how many tank-mates of each kind?

It is DEFINATELY not a good sign for a gourami to spend a lot of time sitting on the bottom, as they are surface dwelling fish. I would increase waterchanges to 50% every other day for a week or two.

I would have to know the answer to those questions asked to advise further, but gourami hanging out on the bottom for noticable lengths of time probably will not survive, but I would hope you can prove my statement wrong.

The tank is 35 gallons
She does weekly water changes.

The fish has been sitting like this for about 3 weeks... not swimming strange, just not swimming much.

What type of gourami is the other, and this one for that matter? Is that one showing any aggressiveness toward this one?

No aggression for the other Gouriami, or any of the other fish... the other Gouriami is the same... they are both the orange colored ones... females I think?

Do they look like the one in this picture? Is there any abnormalities on it's skin. ( i.e. red spots or streaks, bloating, dark patches, greyish slime) How do it's fins look? Frayed, reddish, or torn? Does it seem to be gasping? If it's at the point where it is hanging at the bottom then I'd think it would be showing some symptoms, if it's an illness. No symptoms could mean bad water quality but weekly water changes should be good. What filtration is there? I'm don't know anything about illness that you can't see the symptoms, though I'm sure some internal parasites could do their worst without showing symptoms. Theres a lot of things that it could be.

FYI If you do find that this gourami is ill DO NOT USE Melafix. It's no good for gouramis and bettas, or any anabantoid.

He didn't make it... he did look kind of like the pic... but no visible sighn & her water is perfect... stays with water chages & has pleanty of oxygen, right temp... must have just been a bad fish??
