I bought two oto's today. I dropped in my algae wafer for them and my 3 mollies and gourami attacked it as soon as it was in the tank! The oto's haven't eaten any of it and the gourami, who is usually very docile, has become protective of it and snaps at everyone who goes near it!! Are they acting like this just because they haven't been exposed to them before? Or are they prone to liking algae wafers?

They can like algae wafers. Try dropping it in after you feed your gourami's favorite food and/or at night after lights out. Otos are nocturnal also and gouramis tend not to be.

my paradises and blue do that with my corys' food
i drop the pellets in the back of the tank, while my other fish are eating their flakes...with the lights off, so they dont see the wafers falling

try breaking up the wafer into 2-3 pieces, so they when the gourami is eating it theres still 2 peices for the ottos
