Is my gourami seeing his reflection?

My male dwarf gourami is in a 20g tank right now with two corys and a mickey mouse platy. He (and the platy does it sometimes also) will apparently become entranced with his reflection against one of the walls of the tank and swim up and down with his nose right against the wall for like 10-20 mins sometimes! It is kinda funny but I just wanted to see if this was a normal behavior or if it will stress him out. If anything it kinda seems like he's playing and not really trying to be aggressive but I just don't know. Any thoughts?

Sometimes at night with all house lights off, and only his tank light on, my betta will flare up at what seems to be his reflexion.

i don't think it's something to be concerned about with gourami, like it would be with bettas. but i'm not a gourami owner so i think our members with gourami could help you out on this one.

Re: Is my gourami seeing his reflection?

My Dwarf Gouramis don't do that too often, but I have a bala shark who does it all the time. I always thought it was just because they were bored or something. A lot of my fish do that occasionally, but the Shark does it more than anyone else. I think it's fairly normal behavior. ... or maybe they are just seeing the invisible-to-human (fish aliens)

i wouldn't worry about it, my paradise fish do this pretty much all day long...back and forth, up and down...especially when i am in the room

My Gourami does exactly that... it puzzled me as well for awhile.

When I had gourami's they also did the same thing. I believe they were just looking at their reflection in the glass, probably sizing up the other 'competition".. lol
