Goldfish and heaters.

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting some kind of tropical fish but found out that they need a heater. I allready have a goldfish in my tank but worrying that my goldfish is going to get cooked if I put a heater. Any help.

actually it depends, if u r from western countries such as europe and america u will need a heater but if u r from asia and africa u will not need a heater as weather is already hot in these continents

Re: Goldfish and heaters.

It's not appropriate to mix goldfish and tropicals. Their needs are enough different thats it's almost impossible to accomodate both. Temperature of the tank and feeding needs are only two.

Re: Goldfish and heaters.

In addition to the differing needs of goldfish and tropical fish, you would need to consider the size of your tank. Your signature indicates your goldfish is in a 5 gallon tank. That size tank is inadequate for housing additional fish, and many would argue it is too small even for a goldfish.

In a 5g, probably 2. We have 4 in our 10g and they are a lot of fun, but they are little poopers. You'd probably want males (avoid the probability of fry) too.

Platy are SUPER breeders.. if you have males & females in the same tank (like the pet store), it's practically impossible to keep them from breeding it seems.. we got only females and still ended up with a pregnant one. And a Platy female can have fry up to 6 times from 1 mating, giving up to 100 fry each time.. although ours does more like around 20. Our pregnant platy is right now having her 3rd batch of fry. If you didn't want to deal with them, the platys will eat them, but with a couple males you'd not have to worry about having any.
