Hi folks,
My father and I have the same tank set up for
goldfish. We both have 20 gallons with the penguin bio wheel filters. The only difference is my tank is out of direct sunlight and dad had only one place to put his tank and it gets lots of sun. Hence the problem. My dads tank is just full of algae. I understand why, his water is much warmer and the tank gets too much sun. His two goldies are doing great but I would like to give the tank a good cleaning.
I was going to drain two gallons of his water into a bucket and put his two fish in it while I work on the tank. I know I can clean the algae on the glass, and I have a gravel vacuum but the gravel is so full of algae I thought maybe I should scoop a good bit out and rinse it well at the sink. Do you think there would be enough bacteria on the bio wheel for me to do it or would I be losing to much good bacteria and stirring up a big mess? I also wondered if anyone had any good suggestions for getting the algae off the silk plants?
Dad's tank is fully cycled and I'm wondering also if anyone would suggest adding some thing that eats algae off the gravel?
Thanks for any help,
Lisa
