Black Moor not doing well...any thoughts?

I have 2 Black Moor goldfish that I recently moved out of a 30g hexagon tank into a 30g regular tank. I moved their filter, ornaments, plants and most of their gravel over with them and at first they were doing great...

However, the smaller of the two has been spending a lot of time on the bottom of the tank and he just doesn't seem right. His name is Halloween and he is about 2yrs old and is black and orange, the older one, Gramps, is about 5yrs and is all black (I rescued them from being flushed when I bought their tank on craigslist!!!) and they are my only coldwater fish.

Anyway, Gramps keeps hovering over Halloween and stays pretty close to him when he is on the bottom of the tank. I did a water change, added prime and just added some Stress Coat+.

Not sure why this is happening or if there is much I can do for this poor guy...

Any advice is appreciated!

He could be adjusting. How long has it been since you moved them? Also, have you tested the water?? You did add conditioner to the water right?? Hope I helped!!

What is the reading for ammonia and what is the current temperature of the tank? When the water cools down, goldfish go somewhat dormant. Or it could be a reaction to the different water conditions or even just the new tank. Do you have any pics?

Try adding some extra aeration. Goldies have a higher O2 demand then tropicals because cold water holds more oxygen then warm. I don't know if that's the problem but it may help.

Hello Mercury. I hope your fish just needs more time to acclimate to it's new surroundings. Please keep us posted and wishing your fish the best!

Halloween is still not himself. I put the small heater back in their tank so the water is about 70 degrees now. Instead of sitting on the gravel, he is now swimming and when he stops, his rear end seems to float upwards to the top of the tank...

Once he swims again, his body goes downward like normal, it seems as though he has a life preserver on the area where his tail meets his body!

The other fish is fine, completely horizontal like usual when not swimming so this is definitely something new and weird....

It may be a swim bladder issue, or an intestinal air bubble. The fancy goldies (with the egg shaped bodies) are prone to these. Try fasting him for a day and then feeding him a small piece of pea. That may help. Basically, they get a little air bubble stuck in their intestines and can't pass it. The fasting and pea should help with this.

Sorry about 'Halloween'. I'm partial to Black Moors myself. Good luck.

Hi Mercury,

Sorry your Halloween isn't feeling well. Hope he recovers soon. Please keep us updated. Maybe a few photos of him in this condition could help. You and halloween will be in our thoughts.
