My Fish is changing colour - why ??

Hi there, one of my brown ornamental cold water fish is going orange, is this normal ?? All water tests are fine and the other fish are fit and healthy too.
Does anyone have any idea's why this is happening ??

Do you know what type of fish they are or do you have pictures? Your aquarium info says 45 liters (about 11 gallons) and no fish... What are the readings on the water test and what type of test kit are you using?

If it is a goldfish, then it is normal. Goldfish are born black/dark brown and turn orange as they mature. There are some varieties that keep the dark coloring, but it is more common for them to turn orange.

Hi Debsy
If you would fill in your aquarium info it will help the members help you without having to ask a bunch of questions about your set and fish.
It's found under My Settings at the top left.
Thanks!

Hi Lucy, yeah the info it asks for is too complicated for me to fill in, I just have little ornamental goldfish, most people on here are very experienced fish people where as I dont know very much as I rescued the fish.

If you just fill in livestock, it would help.
What are your water parameters? A goldfish, even small ones - need at least 20 gal.

I understand. I didn't know what any of that meant when I first started either but filling in the kind (if you know) of fish and how many would be helpful.
If you don't know what something means you can just write that you don't know and the members will be happy to help with that.
Many of us started this hobby knowing little or nothing.

I hope your fish is ok.

I have never heard of a "little ornamental goldfish". All goldfish have the potential to grow to 12 inches or more. Even the "fancy" goldfish. Just to help clarify for you:

Fancy Goldfish: goldfish with egg shaped bodies

Non-fancy Goldfish: also called Common, Comet, Feeder, Shubunkin: goldfish with a more streamlined shape

Tank requirements - 20 gallons for the first goldfish with an additional 10 gallons for each additional goldfish. This rule works fairly well for the fancy goldfish as they are slower swimmers. The non-fancy goldfish do better in a minimum of 55 gallons or more and do best in a pond as they are fast and active swimmers.

Do you know which type of goldfish you have? Here is a link to a website that shows some of the different types of fancy goldfish:

If this helps.....many young goldfish have really nice patterns in Brown and Black. As they Mature their color can change to pure orange. My veiltails in my yard pond produce many brown babies....after a year they become orange.

So if your little fish is small (very young)...don't worry it is ok....just won't end up the colors that you bought.

I've heard of Black Moors occasionaly changing completely to orange as they age. I understand that with them it's a normal process, does not indicate the health of the fish and is nothing to be particularly to be concerned about.
