Lucky Fantail!

I was ready for bed, but not feeling entirely tired came upstairs to find a DVD to put in on the bigscreen in the living room. I look over to one of my goldfish tanks and what do I find...?

My 8'' long and 4'' tall goldfish had got herself stuck in a 4'' square hollow log with an entry point of 3'' at the tallest part. At first I didn't know what to think, all I could see was orange, and assumed it was just my special needs goldfish in his usual sleeping spot. Then, painstakingly, she struggles around and this huge eye looks at me pleadingly through one of the small holes in the log.

In order my brain went through these thoughts;
"Oh."
"That's my big female... isn't it?"
"*censored* "

Thankfully with a little gentle nudging and coaxing (her being ridiculously tame, ie; enjoys swimming into my hands) I was able to lead her back out through the largest hole. After a few of the cory pellets she's so fond of she was quite happy again and swimming around.

A little bit of damage on her tail, but she comes back from the pond with much worse every year after dealing with the big male I have, so she'll be fine in a few waterchanges.

I'm just glad I decided to come back upstairs!

Thank goodness you were able to get her out. Our goldies sure get themselves in a spot sometimes. One of my males got himself trapped up on the rocks in my pond. His tail and fins are a bit ragged and he has a bit of a sunburn, but he is doing fine now. Your girl should heal up nicely.

So, did you remove that particular log? Maybe use some silicone to glue a few pebbles around the opening so she can't get in the log again.

I haven't removed the decoration, as it's where the special needs goldfish sleeps/rests. However I did turn it so that the only opening over 2'' tall is closer to a corner. The 4'' special needs has no problem manuvering into it but the one who got stuck... well, she's just too fat and big. =]

Bless her heart! Congratulations on the "rescue". Poor girl. I bet you gave her an extra treat for her drama.

Haha, yep. She was quite well fed before she went back to bed last night. She absolutely LOVES the cory's shrimp pellets, so I gave her some. Quite content and full after that!

She hasn't even swam by the log since then, lol. I guess she learned her lesson the first time!
