Re: Goldfish
What kind of fish do you have? I have a 10 gallon tank that I raise feeder gold fish in. We raise them in pairs of two until they are about 5in long.We haven't lost a single fish to this day. Also to keep the glass Kleen we have a Plecstomus.

Re: Goldfish
Those "feeder fishes" will grow to 12 inches long. You should give them more room.

Re: Goldfish
I have comets, which is a variety (I believe) of the common goldfish. My biggest is about 30cm - he's huge and eating everything in the tank (weed). He is such a pig that we named him piggy. Two (yes that's his name) is about 25cm and Runt is 20cm. Two and Runt are quickly following suit with piggy and I am trying to find them new homes....

Re: Goldfish
After they reach 5in long they go to our neighbors 100gal tank togrow to about 8in long. Then they go to a out door pond which is 22 feet deep in the center so they have plenty of space to get through the winter with out freezing.

I, too, have a shubunkin. It's the perfect mix of a regular goldfish's body shape and the colors and finnage of a fancier variety.

Have you upgraded tank, Neville? This one looks bigger than I'd remembered.
I answered all of the above as my dad has all of the above and I am ending up being their primary carer whenever I am in Belgium.
I used to have one common one when I was little.

Do you live in a warm climate? Because the pleco needs temps around 25C, and goldfish need max 22C. How do you bridge the temp gap?
I am curious, as my parents would also like a pleco, but I told them they couldn't for the temp reason.

actually comets and commons arent just varieties of eachother. they are each their own type of goldfish breed. commons have short stubby tails and fins and comets get longer fancier looking fins. not the same but are easily confused.. heart

I think I have a comet.
The comet is actually a "child" of the common species, developed by Hugo Mullert, a government worker, from common breeding stock. He put them on the market, pretty much.

I have two Sarasa Comets. Right now, they are living in my bathtub pond. One is about inches, not including tail and the other 5 inches. The larger one is also bigger around and has a much longer tail. They are named Ying and Yang. Here is a pic from when they were a bit younger. They have become quite camera shy since they've gotten older.

before I got into cichlids, I had what I was told were "lion head" goldfish ...they were all named after the lion king movie!! I use to look for the ones that EVERYONE called ugly, and bought them right up!! Then my entire tank got velvet disease...which I found out since then, was because I was majorly overstocked!! ...I miss those fish very much!!!!!!
