Well I suppose this was to be expected getting my babies from Wally but... (sigh)
So what's the best way to treat ick in a goldfish tank and how high can you safely raise the tempature?
I was thinking of using a combination of heat and salt (? I read 2-3 teaspoons/gal but I don't know if I trust that ?) or would heat and meds be better?
It's a 56 gal tank and the temp tends to stay around 24*C (this is a very rough guess) without a heater...

I treat all my WalMart (and PetsMart) goldfish with ICH Attack. Even if they don't show signs of ich. That is part of my quarantine on these fish. I don't worry about raising the temp though. I also don't usually worry about using salt unless there is a parasite infection (such as anchor worm). If you want to do the salt, I usually do a salt bath...starting with about 1/4 tsp per gallon for 30 seconds twice a day. Then slowly increasing the time and then the amount of salt and even the frequency of the dip until you are up to 1 tsp per gallon for 5 minutes 3 times a day. Any more than that and the salt probably isn't going to help.

Anyway, for Ich, I just use the Ich Attack.
