Please help ID!

I just bought 2 tanks from craigslist, a 20g and a 10g including filters, etc. for $25!!! It was a great deal and I was looking forward to setting up the
10g as another fry grow-out tank and the 20g is for my daughter for her 10th birthday...

So I show up to get the tanks and the guy still has 2 HUGE long-finned pop-eyed goldfish in the 20g tank!!! He said, hang on, let me flush these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

So I brought them home with me and they are now living in my 30g hexagon tank. I have no idea what kind of Goldfish they are, but the guy said that they originally cost $30 each, one is 5yrs old and the other almost 2yrs old. One is all black and the his body is about the size of my fist, the other is black and gold and smaller. I didn't know goldfish got this HUGE!!!

I plan on taking some pictures to post once my camera charges, but if anyone has an idea of what kind of fish they are and how to best care for them that would be great!!!!

wow, that's horrible that the guy was going to flush them!! So glad you took them in Mercury. Moors are absolutely beautiful fish, you are going to fall in love with them, if you haven't already !

I really could NOT believe that he said that to me. And he was dead serious!!!

I really don't know what is wrong with people....

In all seriousness, these guys are huge and would have plugged his toilet! Then what?

Poor babies...

We gave them to our son for his 10th birthday (both kids are 10 this week) but they are in our tank. Our daughter got her own tank for her room because she loves fishkeeping and stuff.

some owners seriously dont deserve to have pets. For example, 4 years ago my sister had to do a biology project where she needed fish. She bought to tetras. They were fine, living in a coke bottle. Then, at the end of the project, she said to me, do you want them? and i was like no... well i had smaller fish and the tetras were like 3 times their size. Then she said, fine i'll flush them.. i was like, seriously? they wont live, and then she said, sure they can! nemo did... Then i took them and they lived fine untill they turned 4, they died of old age...

just to give you a heads up Mercury.... though you probably already figured this out for yourself .... those moors are huge waste producers, and you may need to up the filtration, maybe add a second filter to your 30 gallon.

btw, I was thinking the same thing as you, about the toilet. I shuddered at the mere thought of it

People really do astound me with the things that they will do to animals/fish with absolutely no second thought...

These guys are already cracking me up! My son named the all black one "Gramps" because he looks like an old man with no teeth as he swims around and moves his mouth. The other one is "Halloween" due to his coloring!

As for the waste, I've already noticed rather large, er, pieces of waste floating on the top of the water, I am guessing because they were stressed. I have a tetra whisper filter that is for 40-70g on their tank, I have a few extra filters lying around as well if needed! No stinky goldfish tank for me...
