Goldfish tankmates

Hello, i am currently thinking of gettenig a new tank, it will be similar but a bit bigger than the one i have now. And for a change i want to make it a goldfish one. I am wondering but what fish can survive in a coldwater tank with the goldfish. I had corys in a coldwater before, and they were doiong alright. Please post you suggestions. By the way, can neons live in cold water?

white cloud mountain minnows
american flag fish
mosquito fish

neons need warmer water than goldfish. I have goldfish, 2 plecos, 1 chinese algae eater, mosquito fish, and a couple of american flagfish in my pond. The plecos and CAE come in during the winter when it gets too cold.

I've heard that zebra danios can do well with goldfish, but they can also hog the food because they're so much faster than fancy goldies.

Goldfish release massive amount of waste. It is suggested to have at least 20 gallon for a goldfish and another 10 for every extra one. They only do well with fish that prefer temperature around 64-70 so don't mix them with tropical fish, it will causes stress to either the goldfish or the tropical. Even different breeds of goldfishes wouldn't mix well with each other. Try this link. www.exoticgoldfish.net

What about corys?

Corys are tropical fish. They require a much warmer temperature than the goldfish (between 75-79 degrees).

Gremlin gave some excellent suggestions. The American Flag fish is beautiful.

I had a butterfly pleco in with my goldies one time. I now have dojo loaches, they are great.

your tank lists the largest tank at 15 gallons. You said you wanted one a "bit bigger". It is not healthy and more than likely cruel to put goldfish in a small tank. You can only place one goldfish in a 20.

I have white cloud minnows and a paradise fish in my pond with my goldies and they get along great. As stated above, you should make sure that you have an adequately sized tank for them. 20 gallons for the first goldie and 10 for each additional goldie, plus more if you want to add tankmates.

It is always fun to imagine the different types of tanks we could put together.

danios
corys - yes, they are fine in cold water
white clouds
rosy barbs
dojo loach
CAE - though they are aggressive
black skirt tetra - i have had them in cold water in the past

there is heaps more,

good luck

Bad Wolf: Black Skirts are tropical as are cory's. They may survive in cold water, but they really will not be too happy.

I'd try different types of goldfish; ie the fancy variety. Bubble-eyes, Black Moors, Fantails, Oranda's...They arte just about as hardy, however a few are prone to swim bladder.

Good luck.

I've had danios (zebras) with goldfish before (someone was going to flush them so I took them and put them with my goldies) they did fine, they stayed at the top and ate flakes food while the goldies (a moor and a ryunkin) ate pellets and hung out mostly mid to bottom... everyone got along. there was no heater.

Hi.

If it's the case you are starting a new tank for goldfish, then just have goldfish. There are so many different variety of them like ABCDemily says, and you won't even know which one to pick!

Verses in a case such as you need to consolidate tanks with different fish or adopt unwanted fish or... you get the idea?
