Making frozen veggie wafers?

I had an idea that I could make frozen veggie wafers for my goldfish. I sort of made up a recipe and I was wondering if it sounds good (not for the main diet, but for a supplemental treat).

Ingredients:

Cucumber
Carrot
Apple
Strawberry
Oat flakes
And whatever other vegies/fruit we might have on hand.

Steps:

Blanch/lightly boil everything to soften it.
Puree in the food processer.
Pour into ice cube trays or some other type of mold and freeze.
Feed like you would frozen bloodworms, etc. (When I feed Wilhelm I shave off a piece of the cube and plop it in the tank.)

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? Can anyone see anything obviously wrong with this idea?

Thanks!

great idea making your own foods..and its tons cheaper..but fish do not need sugar or fruit...its not good for the contamination of the tank either..but the veggies and oats will be great for them! just add some plain gelatin to the mix or once you put it in the tank, it will disintegrate and pollute everything and look like mush instead of food they can eat(I learned that the hard way)

Good idea Shawnie.

Would it also be good for the fish if I put a little garlic juice in the mix? I read it makes them want to eat. How do I get garlic juice and how much should I put in?

fresh garlic or garlic juice is great.you can get either at your grocery store..I use the big jars of fresh garlic that has all the juice in it....you can put it right in the blender with the rest of your veggies

no..depending on how much food you are making, depends on how much you use...I usually put a half of tsp for my batches and they are good size...(they fill an entire small tray..I have 2 of them ..im enclosing a similar pic of my tray)

Definitely add the gelatin. I also never add frozen food into the tank, always wait til it thaws slightly. With the gelatin based food you can just put some into the fridge an hour or so before you use it. With the bloodworms, I pick out the individual bloodworms and after that the ice melts pretty fast.
