A question of sorts...

I'm not a goldfish keepers, and if I was I love the look of the comets/common goldies. Not really a big fan of the fancy goldfish.

However I was in petcetera yesterday and wandering by the tanks yesterday I noticed that one of the bubble eye goldies, didn't have an eye. The whole thing was just gone. I felt so bad for the poor thing that I almost brought him home with me. I do have an empty 20 gal but... what would the prognosis be for a 1 eyed fancy goldfish?

I had a one eyed albino cory. IMHO, providing him/her with a safe habitat free from bullying, would allow him to have a nice chance at a long and healthy life.

Kudos to you for being such a softy.

I also had a black moor once with one eye. I think he had gotten "pop eye" or something. He lived a normal fish life from what I remember (he was separated until the eye socket healed and then rejoined his tank mates.)

Once the wound is healed, he should be able to get along fine. Unfortunately, a lot of the fancies that have the stick out eyes get their eyes damaged. Anytime they bump anything in the tank (or even the sides of the tank) it has the potential to damage the eye or the sac around the eye. The 20 gallon tank would be fine for him all by himself. Use silk plants in the tank and larger smooth rocks for the substrate. That way there will be less of a chance for additional injury. Also, keeping him by himself, he won't have to compete for food with other fish that would see it first.
