| I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure it was a grey and white cat (pretty cat) that wears a collar and a pink heart shaped tag that say "Tiny" with a phone #. There is NEVER any answer at the phone #. That cat is in my yard all the time. It stares at my finches in the aviary (and yes, it has tried to catch them, too) and I've seen wet paw prints on the wall around my pond and that cat walking away. So I know it gets up on the pond all the time. I went out because I heard splashing, and that cat was running across the lawn. When my Mom fed my fish later that day, she (the shubunkin) didn't come up like she usually does. I caught her and put her in the 2 1/2 gallon (what she is in for the pics) and dosed her with melafix. Let her stew in it for about 5 minutes, then put her back in the pond. Dosed the pond with melafix at half strength. Kept my eye on her and it took a couple of days before she would come up to eat the pellets. She is probably about 12 years old at least. I don't remember for sure just when I got her, but it has been a long time.
As for the cat, it still hangs around our house all the time. It will sit on the ledge right outside my bedroom window and stare in room. I've caught it several times to call the owner and there is absolutely no answer or answering machine ever. I've let it ring like 30 times. I have a humane trap that I used to use before they would charge $70 for me to turn in "my pet" stray cats. Oh, I know all about the trap neuter release program and how feral cats have their place and they keep other cats out of their territory blah blah blah. I'll tell you right now that 99% of the cats I caught in my live trap were NOT able to hunt or feed themselves. Most of them were nothing but skin and bone and a couple were put down as soon as I took them in because they were so diseased. (One had feline leukemia and 2 had rabies). Like I really want that in my neighborhood... I am firmly of the belief that the leash law for dogs should include all domestic animals. For their OWN safety as well as the safety of others. Oh, and several of the cats that I caught and took in had been declawed on all four feet. No way could they catch and eat anything in the "wild".
OK, cat rant is over now...
I'm just glad my fishie is all better. |
