having second thoughts...

Hi everyone, I am planning on getting a 33 gallon aquarium (48" by 12" by 13") and was instantly thinking tropical, and I went to the pet shop that my friend owns just to walk around and look at fish and for the first time payed attention to the fancy goldfish, they are pretty cool fish and was wondering if the fantails, orandas , and moors would be happy in my tank. the only difference would be temperature right? should I make it a goldfish tank. now I really don't know what I want to do with it!

In a 33 gal tank, you could have two fancy goldfish.

They grow very large, are very messy, need lots of room, heavy filtration and oxygenation especially in warmer months.

If you love fancies, no reason not to have two of them in this tank.

There's nothing wrong with a large coldwater aquarium. There are plenty different types of cold water fish and various fancy goldfish which in a planted tank would look nice.

There is a bigger and more varied range of tropical fish though.
Have a look at some cold water setups and compare them.

yeah, my friend (the one who owns the pet shop) has a 20 long with 2 goldfish, she went with the natural look, I still don't know what to do!

Goldfish are very fun fish to have. They are also very dirty. Double the filtration on the tank and you might be able to push it to three fancies. I would stick with the fancies as they are slower moving and their adult size is smaller than the comets, shubunkins, and common goldfish.
