| When you say the water parameters are great, what are the readings for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?
Is it possible there's something in the tank they're getting injured on?
Can you post a pic? That might help the members figure out what's going on. |

| I see that you have a 20 gallon tank that is 1 week old and you don't know about the nitrogen cycle. Is this the tank that you keep your goldfish in? What are you using to test the levels of Ammonia, Nitrites, and Nitrates? Test strips or liquid test?
Also, goldfish are coldwater fish. If there is a heater on their tank, and the water temp is 78, they may break out in sores. They will start to show signs of stress and illness. They prefer colder temps. Last edited by Beeker; November 22nd, 2008 at 08:16 PM.

| Hi: Beeker, thanks for responding. i don't have no heater and the tank is cycled i just haven't updated my profile, and i use the API test kit.i just don't know if this is normal or if it is a start of something. these last 2-seem fine but have a few white marks on them and i can't find a reason for it. lol. they are very active, bowells good and eating pelletts, veggie granules and all in all look healthy, swimming running to see me when i pass forging all day ect;but just these white marks on the black part of them that looks not good. bella |

| I went to the local fish store and there is one guy with oranda's and know's a little about them and he said they must be hitting something in the tank and i am in the midst of re-arranging things in there now. he said if i have any fast ones that get excited quickly they will scratch against something and this could cause the marks and he said to treat with mela-fix and a little salt and also they had some from the same batch that i bought die as well.i feel sorry for the fish but at least i know why the little one died i presume he was sick too, when i got him.bella |

| My Comets got pretty banged up when they started spawning again. If it is just a scrape, I'm sure they will be fine. It won't be the last time either! |

| Beeker, i think i have found the culprit lol it is the clay flower pots i have in there ,they are so active that when i go around them they darn near kill one-another to see if they are going to be fed lol so i moved the pots so they can't squeeze through them at least i hope i have found the reason and i added a little salt lol less then 1/4 tespoon and i hope that starts the healing.Oh well i will watch them close as they are lovely little boy'[s or girls and they swim together all the time. and both eat from my fingers already and i have had them about 1-2-weeks. boy they sure are smart little guys. thanks you Beeker for your help and all others of course. What would i do without you guys and gals lol bella |

| Glad we can help.
My goldies are very active too. I have 6 in a 75 gallon tank. They drop eggs very often, and when they do, they bang eachother up. Really, just keeping the water clean and conditioned is good enough. If you salt them every time they get banged up, you will be going through a lot of salt. These fish are tough, and they often scrape themselves by playing, courting, going after food, or even just trying to get attention from you. Goldfish are pretty crazy fish. But I still love them. |

| Beeker, i have noticed they are very crazy fish and very loving as well the 2-little ones eating from my fingers, and they are like a mack truck when they see you coming lol but i too fell in love with them. i am using the mela-fix for the healing as it is natural and your right just keeping them fed and clean is a full time job lol but i wouldn't have it any other way bella |
