is this wrong?

I was recently at a friends....
and they have a large SW tank....had to be 150 ish?
They seem fairly educated and did a proper set up.....this was a while ago...ive watched it grown ad they did a nice job

But they also had a goldish in a half moon shaped bowl that hung on a wall....maybe a gaollon? was small.....
it didnt have a filter as I inquired and they said it was ok because they did regular water changes on it....it did have an air stone for oxygen and water movement
is that ok? I was kind of shocked ....
It was just the one gold fish though....

Im thinking back to the old fish bowl days when I was a kid...winning it at a carnival....sometimes those things lived so long and we just had the fish in the bowl and nothing else!
( ya know back when cars didnt have seat belts and my parents didnt mind me laying on the back dash of the big buick...lololol)
ahhh the primitive days

goldfish are among the most intelligent fish generally kept as pets, and they get stressed if kept in too small of a space. They also produce much more waste than most other fish their size, and get stressed if kept in a too-small or unfiltered tank.

They're hardy enough that they can survive for months or even a few years in a small bowl, but, with a potential lifespan of 25+ years, a few years isn't all that long for them to live.

If the half moon shape that hangs on the wall is the one I'm thinking of, it is only about a 1/2 gallon. Someone gave me one and I put a plant in it. Dirt and all. That's about all those are good for. The gold fish should really be in a tank with a filter as well as the airstone. One goldfish should be in at least a 20 gallon, but 30 or more is better. They are large waste producers and even with changing the water in the tiny bag every day, that is still not really enough room for the goldfish. That would almost be like leaving your fish in the bag you brought it home from the store in and just sticking an airstone in and leaving it.
