Well, I'll get to the point and keep this short and sweet.
My dad bought my mom 2 goldfish from Petsmart, (I work there, discounts, *rolls eyes*) for mothers day, little, fan-tails, to add to the goldfish aquarium that (I) maintain, and not to toot my own horn... But I've done a darn fine job of maintaining it quite well. And well... we had them in the tank about a week, they were doing great, all the fish doing fantastically. But then... This little orange and white fantail (That I've now named El Diablo Chiquito, The Little Devil otherwise.) Just started going bezerk! No, joke, he just started picking on the other two goldfish that were in the tank before, particularly, the large 6 inch black moor we have in there. And by picking, I mean, fin-nipping, and chasing, cornering, and more fin-nipping, and generally nipping.
It puzzled me greatly, because, these fish, had more than enough room in the 46 gallon tank I kept them in. I did water tests, I tried placing places it could possibly use as it's own territory, and, despite all of my attempts to quell this small, 1.5 inch fishes agression. NOTHING. WORKED. I finally had to resort to catching it in the biggest net I had and keeping it trapped in the net for a day or two until I could figure out what to do with it.... And the surprises didnt' stop there surprisingly enough. The other little fantail, a precious little calico fantail suddenly started doing the same exact thing to my black moors fins and body, nipping, nipping, and more nipping. Fustrated and tired of this annoying trait these fish were exibiting, I also trapped the other calico inside the net which was housing El Diablo Chiquito. An hour and a half later, the calico was dead. I wasn't watching the tank of course, and at the time, I wasn't worried about the other small fish getting killed, since, it was generally left alone, from what I had observed from the previous day's before. But I guess, I was wrong, and El Diablo Chiquito, decided to viciously tear and nip at this other little calico till it was sufficiently stressed to the point of death...... I think. But I am sure that physical abuse from El Diablo Chiquito was a main contributer in the little calico fantails death.
So in my desperation, I finally moved the Neurotic Fantail to a more sutable fish "Prison", temporarly, by prison of course, I mean an "overfiltered" 2.5 gallon which used to house my betta, (who is in my 55 gallon, and loving it btw)... Soon though, I'll either be giving it to someone else, or buying a larger tank for it... Idk, fellow fish-lore peeps... What would taint an innocent goldfish to the point where it suddenly gained the temperment of an Oscar
By the way, I appologize for the strangely phrased words, probable misspellings, and wacky grammer...... I'm still recovering from having to get up at 3:30 in the morning 7 days in a row. xD
