Tempory Goldfish Move

I have two 20 gallon tanks both with goldfish. One is upstairs and one downstairs. I am having new flooring installed upstairs so I need to tear down and move the upstairs tank. I was thinking of putting the goldfish into the tank that is downstairs for a few days. I know the water temp downstairs is a few degrees colder than the one upstairs but if I acclimate the fish slowly should they be okay going into that tank?

I will get a few buckets and try to save as much water from the tank as I can and should I let the bio wheel float in the bucket of tank water? Any other suggestions? I hope to do this without losing any of my fish.

Thanks,
Lisa

They should all be okay. Think of it like this how many aquariums and such things like that have these goldfish stayed in until you bought them. They should be perfectly fine. Just keep an eye on them and do what you have to do.

You don't say how many goldfish you have, but it should be fine, just keep your eye on your water parameters and do waters changes as needed.
Are you breaking down the upstairs tank? That would mean you'd have to cycle it again.
I would try putting the filter (this would help with the increased bio load) or just the filter media if you have to, in the downstairs tank along with your gravel (you can put this in clean pantyhose and hang it in the tank) to try and save as much bacteria as you can.

If you put the wheel in a bucket, you'll have to feed it and make sure the water doesn't get cold and kill off the bacteria.

Good luck.

Thanks all for your help. I have two and a half weeks before they install my flooring. I think in the next week I will just take a day to move the tank back to a bedroom and keep it there until after the flooring is done. I have six one gallon jugs, and 2 two gallon buckets so far so I'll be able to save half the tank water for the move. I should be able to do it all in a couple hours. The upstairs tank has three goldfish in it so it is overstocked. The downstairs tank has two goldfish. I hate the thought of having them all in one tank, even for just a few days.
