My old goldfish turned white. He was just a .25 cent feeder gold fish when we got him. He was about an inch in size when we got him and he was white with a bright orange spot. He survived the 300 mile divorce move last year. He died about a month ago and was about 4 1/2 inches long and about 2 years old.
But after about nine months or so his orange started to fade and his eyes turned from black to pink. For about the last year he's been totally white with pink eyes. I don't know why he died but that's the longest I've ever had a gold fish live. Was it old age that he died of? And why did his eyes and color change?

Goldfish usually change color as they age.
Goldfish have a life span of about 20 years, though cases of over 50 are not uncommon.

He was really the best fish. My son named him or her goldie. Which was fairly normal considering some of the other names like stick, stump, spray can, Oh and I don't mean to forget our betta we've had for about 6 months named meatball! Meatball lives in matthews room.
