Goldfish dead or just sleeping?

Hi, I never seen a goldfish sleep before. Its about 9pm tonight and the lights in the 55 gl is on, but my red-white goldfish is lying on the VERY back corner of the tank. His gill is moving fast and he is calm. Is he sick or just tired and want to sleep? This is their 2nd night in my new aquarium. Yes, its fully cycled, 3 days and I have check the water using the test kit. They are all small (babie-ish). Please help! Thanks.

If he has rapid breathing, there may be something wrong. Has the tank only been set up 3 days? If so, unless you use bio spira, your tank is not cycled. This may be causing the fish stress. Let us know how he is doing today.

I checked the water again, and it says fine. He is doing ok and normal now but sometimes he just lay there on his stomach on the bottom sometimes. I use pellets as the food, wrong perhaps? Do goldfish close their eyes when they are sleeping?

8 posts? Welcome to Fishlore, sometimes we overlook doing this, and just want to tell you all questions are gladly answered here, 'if we can'.

You sound like you have read a lot about setting up your tank, but what kind of testing equipment did you get?

So what ARE the readings for,

Ammonia:
Nitrites:
Nitrates:

What temperature is the tank?

How did you cycle your tank?
Fishless, or what did you use?

After the cycle was complete did you do any water change before adding fish?

It sounds like the fish in question is stressed out from something, I would like to be able to have the answers to the above to help you.

Depending on the amount of time u had the light off on them. Usually after about half an hour they will appear to be almost dead. After the light has been on about 5 min, they will be awake

My goldfish just started that today. He just lays on the bottom. I do keep the light on from 7am-10pm, a bit long. I thought he had swim bladder, but when he wants he swims fine. Right now he's just under the bridge.
