keeping the water temp down

I have a ten gallon tank I Plan to put a goldfish in and it is buy a window. well I live in texas which I can get pretty hot.so I was wandering if I Buy a background for my fish aquarium would it block the sun from my tank? or would it not help? also if I Put a fan right by the tank would that help with the temperature?

Re: keeping the water temp down

The background would block some of the heat but I'm afraid not enough. Is there something else you would like to put in the 10G? Recommended size for a goldfish is 20G for the first goldfish and 10G more for each additional goldfish added. They are really heavy waste producers and can in the right conditions get to a good size.

Hi.

If possible I would locate your aquarium away from a window. That way it won't be as exposed to the heat, and probably you'll get less algae on you glass as well!

You could install a small fan in the hood of the aquarium to help keep the water cooler. You can get one at any electronics store or petstore.
