missing shrimp

It has been 10 days since anyone has seen a ghost shrimp in my tank. I had two of them and we used to see them, although it was not always easy due to their almost invisible appearance. Now we never see them at all and I was wondering what you guys think. Are they now deceased? Or are they just hiding? Is there any way of knowing? Is it possible that I have vaccumed them up out of the gravel while doing a clean up? Could one of my danios have eaten them? Silly questions I know, but I am just wondering if there is any chance they are still in there, or should I give up looking for them.

Any one of them is a possibility. They could have been eaten, sucked up or just hiding.
They really like freeze dried daphnia and algea wafers, you could try to lure them out with those.

i have 5 zebra danios, eight harlequin rasboras, 2 oto cats and 10 cardinal tetras. I doubt any of these are big enough to have eaten the shrimp, except maybe the danios. I was wondering if they may have just burrowed into the gravel or under an ornament, but they are just never seen anymore. I might drop an algae wafer in and see what happens, but I suspect the other fish will just eat that up before they can get near it. Do you know if they are more active at night? Is it possible that they only come out in the dark?

There is a slight possiblity it crawled out of the tank, my Amano did that...poor little guy. Do you have cats? they might have fished them out of the tank...

yes i do have a cat, but no way she could get her paws in the tank. But her food bowl is just next to the tank so I guess if the shrimp did get out she may have thought it was a tasty shrimp treat. lol. I suppose all I can do is wait and see if they show up one day.

My 2 Ghost Shrimp hide all the time, it's a game for my kids to try and find them, usually we'll barely see one single antennae poking out of a dark crevice or plant and other than that, they are very good little hiders.

I'd say though that if they don't start moving around during feeding time and you haven't seen them for a few days something may have happened to them.

/good luck!

well cmoreland you were right. After nearly three weeks of mystery, we saw both shrimp yesterday when I turned the lights off for a while. Go figure! They must have found a great little hidey hole somewhere. Since yesterday I have seen them twice today , on the driftwood. At least I now know not to worry if they go AWOL for awhile!
